CityNews – As part of the Lanna Expo 2017, over 160 coffee shops and tea shops and product producers will be hosting the 1st Northern Thailand Coffee and Tea Festival, an event to showcase some of the best tea and coffee products from Northern Thailand and promoting the economic potential of Chiang Mai.
The event will be in honour of His Majesty King Rama IX and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, who encouraged citizens in the highlands to plant coffee and tea instead of opium poppies preventing the grow in drug trade and forest invasion. From then coffee and tea planting area has been gradually increasing now there are over 34% of coffee planting area in the northern region of Thailand including Chiang Mai. Along with the quality development from the support of both private and public sectors making Thai’s coffee and tea enter the international market.
The event comprises of activities and booths that provide better understanding and knowledge of the coffee and tea industry in the northern region of Thailand including workshops, product showcases, latte art and cupping tasters competitions and free coffee and tea tastings.
The event began with the Lanna Expo 2017 on June 23 and will continue until July 2 at the Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre.
