CityNews – At 4 p.m. on March 8th Red Shirts from 17 northern provinces gathered in front of Chiang Mai Convention Centre to participate in a Democracy Rally led by the National Democratic Front (NDF).

The Red Shirts core leaders played the battle drum before giving speeches attacking anti-government groups, mainly the Bangkok PDRC. They also denied rumours of secession by the Lanna Assembly for the Defense of Democracy.

Red Shirts from southern parts of northern provinces met up in Lampang. They assembled in front of the Lampang Police Station before meeting with the Free Bird Group. Mahawan Kawang, leader of Chiang Mai Tuk-tuk Union, brought over 100 tuk-tuks to parade around downtown Lampang. A ‘Democracy’ caravan then drove to Chiang Mai, causing traffic jams on major Chiang Mai roads.
