CityNews – On 17th December around 60 people from the Rak Chiang Mai 51 group gathered at Chiang Mai Town Hall to request that Chao Duangduen Na Chiang Mai step down from her position of president of the Chiang Mai Cultural Office due to an interview in which she stated that Yingluck Shinawatra should resign as Acting Prime Minister.

When Chao Duangduen was interviewd by Thairath newspaper on 15th December she stated that Yingluck had caused conflict among Thai people and so she should resign immediately. The Rak Chiang Mai 51 group says they disagree with this, counter-arguing that the cause of Thailand’s problems over the past 7-8 years was the doing of the Democrats. They added that because the Democrats had failed to win an election for the past 20 years their only hope was to overthrow the government.

Rak Chiang Mai 51 group requested that Chao Duangduen resign from being the president of Chiang Mai Cultural Office since the office is supposed to be politically neutral. They said that the office should not have a president who was against the government.

The group moved to Chao Duangduen’s house to put more pressure on her. They dispersed at approximately 1.30 p.m.
