Village Headman Arrested For Drug Trafficking

CityNews – The village headman of Nong Fai sub-district was arrested in connection to drug trafficking by Chiang Mai police last Saturday.

41-year-old Chawik Malai was arrested following a tip-off that mules often transfer drugs in the JJ Market parking lot.

A sting operation seized 100,000 yaba pills, a car, a mobile phone and 5,000 baht in cash.

Chawik was linked to the drug trafficking and soon confessed that he brought drugs from dealers along the border, transferred them to Chiang Mai to then be sent and distributed in Kanchanaburi.

According to Chiang Mai police, Chawik has a well-connected network with local politicians. His wife also is in a high position in the local authority.

Chawik was found to have a lot of assets and has been running a business involved with land digging. Chiang Mai Police will work with Nong Fai police to examine his assets and assess his political network.
