CityNews – 31 October 2019, an accident that caused two people’s death on 2nd January 2019 (one of them bring a famous Youtube TV channel host), has gone through trial.

Earlier this year, a Toyota Vios driven by Wichittra Pukbunrueng, 25 years old, working as salesperson hit the vehicle the two victims were in, forcing it into the irrigation canal, where they succumbed to injuries.

The Chiang Mai provincial court has issued a judgment that the defendant was guilty of causing victims’ death, property damage and violating traffic rules.  The punishment included imprisonment of 3 years and a fine of 40,000 baht plus a fine for violation in driving against traffic rules of another 1,000 baht.  However, as the defendant pleaded guilty, the punishment was reduced by half to one year and six months and fine of 20,500 baht.  The court has considered that the defendant has never been convicted of any crime, together with the fact that the defendant has begun paying money as compensation to the families of the two victims. The court then suspended its sentence for two years and ordered the defendant to pay the plaintiffs for funeral expense of three hundred thousand baht and compensation for each plaintiff of five hundred thousand baht with interest rates at 7.5% per year as of the 2nd January 2019.

Parents of one of the victims said they were relieved by the court’s decision and added that if Wichittra had come to negotiate with them earlier, there would be no suing in the court like this.
