The 9th Thailand International Balloon Festival at Payap This March

CityNews – The press conference for the 9th Thailand International Balloon Festival was held on January 19th at Dusit D2 hotel.


The press conference was hosted by Charuwan Suwannasart, director of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Wisut Buachum, director of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Chiang Mai Office, Warunee Kammen, assistant general manager of Duangtawan Hotel Chiang Mai and representative of Thai Hotels Association, Northern Chapter, Sornchat Krainara, organiser of The 9th Thailand International Balloon Festival and managing director of All About Arts Company Limited, and Bringkop Vora-urai, a composer.

According to Charuwan, TCEB would like to support the festival to become internationally well-known and be marked in the international calendar. The festival is believed to attract more tourists to Chiang Mai, which will help stimulate the economy and have a positive social impact.

Meanwhile, Wisut said TAT has marked this festival as an annual event in Chiang Mai. Normally, the festival was held annually in December, which is a month of the tourist season. However, this year the festival has been postponed to March in order that Chiang Mai will have interesting events throughout the year. The festival this year, is also a part of the celebration of the 720th year of Chiang Mai. These past years, the festival has been a great draw for tourism, especially European tourists, and the event is now attracting more Asian and Thai tourists to it as well.

This year the festival will be held at Payap University, convenient for transportations and parking, between March 4th – 5th.

The highlights will include the spectacular balloon night glow show synchronised with the Lanna Orchestra as well as the special international heritage fair featuring food, dance, activities, concerts and more!

10 hotels will offer international food such as Czech, Swedish, Indian, Italian, Korean, Germany, and Japanese cuisines, with friendly prices.

There will also be various international performances and workshops including painting khon masks and making paper flowers.

Tickets cost 200 baht for adult; 50 baht for children aged 7 – 12. Free admission for children aged below 7. Tickets are on sale at all branches of Rimping Supermarkets and in Maya Lifestyle Mall and Promenada Resort Mall. Contact [email protected] for more information.
