Sustainable Water Management Conference

CityNews – On 22nd October at The International Convention and Exhibition Centre (CMICE), Chiang Mai Governor Wichian Puttiwinyu was the president of a seminar and press conference to precede the sustainable water management conference which will be held on 30th October 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 a.m. at CMICE.

The governor reported that since Thailand was affected by floods more seriously the government has set up a model scheme for sustainable water management and will host a conference to listen to the feedback from people and related departments.  

Wichian added that the model scheme was planned to be completed within five years and divided into two areas and nine modules, funded by 350,000,000,000 baht.

Area A (Chao Phraya River Basin) consists of six modules, funded by 48,550,894,000 baht. Chiang Mai is responsible for Module A1 – to build two reservoirs in San Pa Tong Dustrict and Mae Jaem District within five years.

Area B (17 river basins) consists of three modules which is to build three reservoirs, pan land usage in 17 river basins area, and improve main rivers to prevent bank erosion in Hat Yai, Songkla.
