The National Astronomical Research Institute (NARIT) has set up four locations across Thailand, of which Chiang Mai is one, for the 14th October viewing of Mars.

According to NARIT, Mars will be placed in the constellation Pisces and highly visible throughout the night.

Here in Chiang Mai, it will be visible between 6.38pm and 5.49am, reaching its highest point in the sky at 12.15am.

This optimal positioning occurs when Mars is almost directly opposite the Sun in the sky.

Mars will be approximately 62.7 million kilometres from earth and visitors are invited to visit the Princess Sirindhorn AstroPark in Mae Rim for a viewing.
