Revival of Chiang Mai’s Philosophy Club

Earlier this week, a group of philosophy enthusiasts gathered at Hideaway Café for a meeting of the Philosophy Club, under the Socrates discussion group on Meetup.com.

The purpose of the event was to discuss the future direction of the group and how to best organise philosophy-based meetups moving forward.

More than 12 people from different parts of the world joined the event to express their passion for philosophy, share topics they find personally meaningful, and explore how we might conceptualize future gatherings.

Many great ideas were raised, including:

  • Inviting guest speakers to share their knowledge

  • Organising small discussion circles of 3–4 people

  • Introducing themed sessions with focused topics

  • Considering different timings and venues (morning, afternoon, or evening) that suit a wider range of participants

It was a productive and inspiring meetup. The next session will take place in two weeks, and the topic will be announced soon—they are currently gathering input from all stakeholders.

One of the goals moving forward is to ensure a more balanced and inclusive environment, particularly by encouraging more women and those who identify as women to join discussions. The group believe diverse perspectives are essential for rich, meaningful conversations.

Most importantly, participants expressed a desire for deep talk and real connection.
If you have suggestions for future topics, or if you’re interested in being a guest speaker and sharing your insights, please feel free to reach out to me.
