CityNews – The Governor of Chaing Mai, Suriya Prasartbandit, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) of Thailand and the Pingkanakorn Development Agency to urgently develop a mass transit system in Chiang Mai, which will include a system of electric vehicles.
The MOU was signed at the International Convention Centre with signatories including MRTA’s governor Peerayuth Singpattanakul, Dr. Saravudh Srisakul, signing on behalf of Pingkanakorn, General Kosol Pratumchart commander of Army 33 as well as the head of the Chiang Mai Land Transport Department and witnessed by the press.
MRTA’s governor Peerayuth told the media that Thailand’s mass transit development has been very slow and this has affected the growth of the economy, the MRTA will therefore step in to work with Chiang Mai authorities directly to realise the needs of the Chiang Mai community. There will be a study conducted, followed by a plan of action to benefit society as a whole.
Following a lengthy press conference on the importance of mass transit in our city, the efforts which will be put into this project, the cooperation between the departments, the needs of the people, and further details are promised at a later date.
