CityNews – On 24th September at 9 a.m. 2,500 corn farmers from Mae Jaem gathered at Mae Jaem District Office to pass a letter to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra concerning the price of corn.

Utai Buntiam, the president of Mae Jam Corn Farmers Network, said that following a protest at Chiang Mai Town Hall on 17th September to request an increase of the price of corn, nothing had yet changed.

He added that corn is currently sold at 5 baht per kg., which leave corn famers unable to subsist. The group has requested that the government buys 30 tons of corn at 8 baht per kg. for corn with 30% moisture, and at 10 baht per kg. for corn with 14.5% moisture.
