On the last night of Loy Krathong (Yipeng) festival, Chiang Mai city came out on the streets – tourists and residents – in an unusual display of festivities (for 2020).
Citizens came out to see the competition for krathong floats, which could be seen at seven points around the moat, ending at the Three Kings Monument and to float their krathongs in the Ping River, which saw some rather large crowds.
In response to the new regulations discouraging the use of fireworks, there were very few fireworks heard on a night which is typically filled with loud bangs and bursting lights.
If you missed it, here are some photos from a very unique 2020 Loy Krathong.
