CityNews – On February 25th, the 5th Regional Police, Department of Special Investigation (DSI) of the 5th region and The Narcotics Control Board arrested Hom Oonsang, 29, of Chiang Rai and Kheuu (Lastname unknown), 39, a Burmese national, with 10 kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine, 9 million baht in entrapment money, and another 21,150 baht.
The DSI had been working with American Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on the investigation of a drug smuggling ring in northern Thailand. They set up a drug buy in Chiang Mai and arrested the two suspects with 10 kg of crystal meth hidden in green tea packages. Some of their accomplices managed to get away, police said. The DSI is now tracking down the Crystal Meth kingpin thought to be operating in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. They estimated the market value for 10-kg meth at 30 million baht.
