CityNews – Wat Phra That Doi Kham was under threat by a fire this afternoon.

On May 10th at 3pm there was fire near the rear of Wat Phra That Doi Kham, Mae Hia. Authorities were alerted and three fire trucks were sent in local municipalities as well as a helicopter working in the skies to combat the fire for an hour. Ruamj Jai Foundation also sent in a team of volunteers to support the fight. The fire is now under control and the damage is estimated at around 400,000 baht since one of the guti (standalone monk’s residence) was burnt to the grounds. No one was harmed in this fire and authorities have speculated that it was caused by those burning the forest to gather for food.

Chiang Mai Governor Pawin Chamniprasart visited the area after the fire was contained and has requested more water and supplies to support all personal and volunteers.
