CityNews – On 15th October approximately two thousand corn farmers in Mae Jaem gathered at Mae Jaem District Office to follow up on the progress concerning the government increasing the buying price of corn.
Thanomsak Pitakham, the leader of the protest, told the press that while the farmers were talking on the stage, the District Chief Officer, Somjed Pluengnut, fired a gun at the ceiling and then pulled the microphone away from them. He then reportedly smashed some speakers.
The farmers said they were infuriated by his behavior and have asked that he resign from his office as Mae Jaem District Chief Officer within 24 hours. If he does not resign, the farmers said they cannot guarantee his safety.
