Dep. Gov. held cursing ceremony for forest fire starters

CityNews – 24th February 2020, stop Doi Inthanon in Chom Thong District, Komsan Suwanampha, deputy governor of Chiang Mai, oversaw a cursing ceremony aimed at bringing bad luck and karma to all forest fire starters.

Members of various environmental groups and networks joined together with the deputy governor and activists as part of the ongoing campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of air pollution. In total about 300 people from many groups attended, ranging from the protect the waterways group to the volunteer fire fighters groups.

Dep. Gov. Komsan said that the current pollution crisis in the north requires the cooperation of every stakeholder, ie citizen. This activity, he said, is aimed to support, strengthen and encourage the volunteer network throughout the province.

A panel discussion titled, ‘People love forests, forests love people, liaising between local wisdom and official knowledge to reduce forest fires and pollution’ was held along with the cursing ceremony.
