Provincial Land Transport Office of Chiang Mai requests public vehicles to check their transportation before the New Year festival
CityNews – Suphamat Lelaraksakul, head of technical support group at the provincial transport office of Chiang Mai gave a press release on 3rd December 2019 that the department of land transport has set up measures to, “Check people, Check vehicles, and Check points” for public vehicles to reduce and prevent road accidents. Checking points are to be set up every 90 kms. throughout the country. In Chiang Mai, two checking points are to be set up; one at Hod district and another one at Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3.
Chiang Mai transport office and its three branches have begun checking vehicles’ conditions and black smoke release since 1st September 2019. Up till now (3rd December) from 4,640 vehicles, only 34 were found to release black smoke over standard safety measures and 419 vehicles had problems with equipment fittings. They were asked to fix the problems within 30 days. For vehicles that passed the standard check, the certification stickers will be given to them so that this would be convenient for checking and building trust among passengers.
Transport office of Chiang Mai requests that any people who witness vehicles releasing black smoke exhaust or vehicles not in good conditions running on a street, they can take a photo identifying the vehicle license number, and where they saw such condition, to hotline 1584 or Facebook สำนักงานขนส่งจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ (Provincial Land Transport of Chiang Mai) so that appropriate legal measures will be followed.
