Chiang Mai has passed a critical stage in the first flood situation. Last night, Mayor Assanee Buranupakorn announced through the Chiang Mai Municipality Facebook page that “Currently, a large mass of water from the north has flowed through Chiang Mai Municipality. It is expected that the Ping River level will gradually decrease to normal.”

The water level at point P.1 near Nawarat Bridge peaked at 2.81 meters at 10 pm before stabilizing and gradually decreasing. As of 8 am, the level had dropped to 2.50 meters and is expected to return to normal later today.

Meanwhile, the Office of National Water Resources has issued a warning for heavy rain in some areas between July 20 and 24, 2025. Regions at risk of flash floods and mudslides include Chiang Dao, Mae Taeng, Mae Rim, Mae Chaem, Mae Ai, Phrao, Chom Thong, and Omkoi.

The Director of the Chiang Mai Irrigation Project reported that, in addition to lifting water gates, water will be released from the Mae Ngat Somboon Chon Dam in Mae Taeng District starting July 18. This release is not expected to affect river levels and is intended to prepare for the anticipated rainfall next week. For the Mae Kuang Udom Thara Dam in Doi Saket District, along with medium and small dams, efforts will focus on diverting water for storage.
