The army is working with the governor’s office to inspect and increase the capacity of the Ping River ahead of any further rains this season.
Officials inspected 41 kms of the Ping River recently and say that they will dredge the entire length in the upcoming months to reduce overflow and flooding later this year.
The dredging will start upstream in Mae Taeng District and continue downstream all the way to Saraphi. The budget for this is 188 million baht. To date they have completed around 6% of the target.
It is planned for the water to run 2 metres deep along the stretch and for the river to stretch to 40 metres for most of the length.
