Authorities on field trip to monitor corona virus situation in Chiang Mai

CityNews – 4th February 2020, at Chiang Mai International Airport, high ranking officers from central and regional immigration offices, CNX airport, public health, and department of disease control held a press announcement about the handling of the contagious virus.  At the same time, necessary preventive tool kits were given to CNX staff.

From the 1st of December 2019 up till now, there have been about 40,000 Chinese tourists from Wuhan to Thailand, 36,000 of them have returned home. The whole number of Chinese tourists in Thailand at present totaled 730,353.

As for Chiang Mai, the immigration office coordinated closely with the airport, provincial health office and various authorities to improve the standards for prevention measures.  Director of CNX airport revealed that designated areas for screening passengers from China were equipped with thermo-scan and assisted with medical related staff.  Passengers with suspected symptoms have been taken to further screening areas and if found with high fevers, they are taken to a hospital for extra examination.

As for recent death of a female Chinese tourist from Guangzhou in the Mae Rim area, Chiang Mai public health doctor said she did not die from new coronavirus or respiratory disease.  However, no announcement has been made as to the cause of her death. And to allay the fears of the public, tissues from her lung was sent for further checkup.
