CityNews – The local government are busy organising anti-pollution events as the city’s pollution has just reached ‘very unhealthy’ levels. Today in downtown Chiang Mai the smog is pervasive. 
On March 19th, Governor Wichian Puttiwinyu and Boonlert Buranupakorn, President of CM Provincial Administrative Organisation, together with 33rd Army, Wings 41, Department of Forestry, and local government official opened the “Chiang Mai Refreshment Day” in efforts to reduce smog from burning season.
Vice Governor Chana Paengpiboon said that the goals of this event are to minimalise the impact of the smog apropos health, economy and tourism. After eight days [and counting] with the PM10 value above 120 µg/m3 limit, the officials projected that the air quality will get worse with warmer and dryer weather. This may also give airline pilots some difficulties in taking off and landing the plane. They are working on more effective solutions to ensure locals and tourists’ safety.
Governor Wichian confirmed that his teams were working around the clock to reduce the pollution effects.
