CityNews – Following the passing of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Yi Peng Festival this year will be celebrated in tribute to the late King by lighting 99,999 Lanna candles.
The candles will represent royal charity and give locals an opportunity to reminisce about the divine grace of the late King.
On October 23 at 10am, locals for around Chiang Mai joined together near the Lanna Folklore Museum to help prepare the candles.
The candle ceremony is planned to happen during the Yi Peng Festival between November 12 to 15.
A total of 56,000 candles will be lit around the city on the 12th along with lighting 99,999 candles at the Three Kings Monument. Over the three day festival, a further 56,000 candles will be lit during the evenings.
