CityNews – The Association of Thai Deaf Children and Women’s Network Foundation held a conference on August 8th to study the significant factors that will help improve the potential work environment for those with disabilities.

An executive decree has stated that employees and businesses in both public and private sectors must support the career opportunities for people with disabilities. Three ways that businesses can do this is hire people with disabilities, support the fund for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and provide opportunity to disabled persons or their caregivers. It is also stated in the executive decree that for every 100 employees, there should be at least one with a disability if the work is appropriate. In doing so, businesses will be tax exempt for this employee.

According to the report, despite support from the government, people with disabilities are not gaining an appropriate amount of work experience and miss out on potential skill gaining opportunities in working environments. This is especially apparent when looking at the social interaction and communication skills of deaf people. The study aims to remedy the barrier of communication and improve the potentiality in working environments for people with disabilities.
