World Famous Pro Golfers to Play in Chiang Mai Golf Classic 2014

CityNews – Alpine Golf Resort is to host the 2nd major golf tournament from June 30th – July 6th. Many professional golfers are expected to attend, including last year’s PGA Championship winner, Jason Dufner.

On May 1st Governor Wichian Putthiwinyu led the meeting on the second ‘Chiang Mai Golf Classic 2014’. In attendance were three Chiang Mai vice governors, representatives from government offices, the public and private agencies, as well as Alpine Golf Resort staff.

Governor Wichian told reporters that this competition had been coordinated by Chiang Mai city, Chiang Mai Administrative Organisation office, PTT Public Limited Company, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), government and private offices.

The prize for the winner of the Chiang Mai Golf Classic 2014 is $750,000 (24 million baht). Thawiwat Thawipol, the Alpine Golf Resort manager, told reporters that there were many professional golfers in the competition last year, such as Ernie Els, Michael Campbell, Y. E. Yang, and the winner Scott Hend from Australia. Thai golfers included Thongchai Jaidee, Prayad Maksong, and Keeradech Abhibanrat.

Three professional golfers have already said they will attend the Chiang Mai Golf Classic 2014: Jason Dufner, Charl Schwartzel, and Anthony Kim. Last year over 618 hours of the Chiang Mai Golf Classic footage was broadcasted around the globe.
