Punlop Saejew, president of the Tourism Council of Chiang Mai told CityNews that tourism numbers are expected to continue to increase as we approach Songkran in two weeks, “We expect over 300 million of baht to come into the Chiang Mai economy from tourism.”
“I am confident that the pollution is not a deterrent. There has been no noticeable number of cancellations. Right now about 80% of our tourists are Asian with around 20% being Europeans. They will begin to arrive in the next couple of days in large numbers and we expect between 3,000 to 10,000 daily arrivals as we near the holidays.”
