Rescue teams were called to the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation’s integrated waste management centre in Pa Pong subdistrict, Doi Saket, at around 10am yesterday after a garbage truck overturned and fell into a waste disposal pit more than ten metres deep.
Four rescue vehicles from the Katanyutham Kusol Chiang Mai Rescue Association responded to the scene, where they found a six-wheel green truck lying upside down at the bottom of the pit, surrounded by large amounts of compacted waste.
The driver, a man who remained conscious throughout, was trapped inside the cabin. Rescue personnel used lifting equipment to extract him from the vehicle before administering first aid and transferring him to Doi Saket Hospital staff, who transported him to Lanna Hospital, where he is reported to be safe.
