A Chinese tourist walking near her hostel in Chiang Mai’s old city says a delivery rider pulled down his trousers and exposed himself to her, then looped around and did it a second time. CCTV on Phra Pok Klao Road Soi 4/2 in Tambon Phra Sing caught the whole thing.
The woman, who is on her first trip to Chiang Mai, told CityNews through a hostel staff member who interpreted for her that it happened at about 10.20am on Oct 14. She had just stepped out of the hostel and reached a junction when a motorcycle came up behind her and pulled in close beside her. The rider dropped his trousers, drove off, and a moment later came back to repeat it. She said she was badly shaken.
She told the hostel what had happened. Staff went through the CCTV footage covering the area to check the rider’s behaviour, collected what they found, and took her to Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station on Oct 15 to file a report. She wants police to track him down and prosecute.
The experience left her feeling unsafe and, she admitted, a bit sour on the city, given it was her first visit and this was the first thing to go wrong. The way the hostel and others dealt with it took some of the edge off. She understands this isn’t something tourists run into often, but doesn’t want it happening to anyone else, which is why she wants him found. She also said that if she gets the chance, she will come back to Chiang Mai.
