They set up a checkpoint after receiving a tip-off about an illegal logging gang in the area. When the driver of the truck saw the checkpoint at around 12.30am he pulled over 20 metres away, got out of the vehicle and ran into the forest. Police found 40 teak boards valued at around 12,000 baht in back.

Aree Puangkingkaew, head of Obluang National Park, said illegal logging hardly ever takes place there but it is used a transit point for wood from Mae Jam and Mae Sariang districts.
