Recently, four counterfeit 1,000 baht banknotes were found. At first glance, they are not different from genuine notes, as they are printed on semi-polymer material. The watermark and royal portrait also closely mimic those found on real currency.
The best way to tell if a 1,000-baht banknote is real is to check if the Thai numeral at the top and the Arabic numeral along the vertical edge show mismatched final digits. One notable difference is the paler color of the fake note.
The watermark, which includes the royal portrait, creates a pattern that does not resemble the real one when held up to the light. Under blacklight, the portrait on the counterfeit note reflects a similar glow to that of a genuine note, but the color is noticeably lighter.
