One clinic, every vaccine: Chiang Mai’s best-kept health secret

Off Sridonchai Road, opposite Sriwong Book Centre, is one of Chiang Mai’s more useful and lesser-known government services: the Travel Medicine and Tourism Clinic, Sridonchai (คลินิกเวชศาสตร์การเดินทางและท่องเที่ยวศรีดอนไชย). Run under the Office of Disease Prevention and Control Region 1, Chiang Mai, it’s one of only six officially recognised travel-medicine service centres in the province, and it’s considerably more comprehensive than most people realise.

The clinic is an officially recognised yellow-fever vaccination centre, one of the few places in Chiang Mai able to provide the vaccine along with the correct international documentation. This makes it the go-to option for anyone travelling to West or Central Africa, parts of East Africa, or certain areas of South America where yellow-fever proof of vaccination is required for entry. Private clinics in the city often direct travellers here for exactly this reason.

Beyond yellow fever, the clinic also administers meningococcal ACWY, cholera, polio, Japanese encephalitis, MMR, hepatitis A and B (including the combined A+B vaccine), HPV, Td and Tdap, and seasonal influenza.

Rather than simply administering whatever vaccine is requested, the clinic offers a fantastic and attentive travel-health consultation. Really kind and professional staff assess your itinerary and destination-specific risks, then advise on the appropriate vaccinations and preventative medicines, including malaria prevention medication and treatment for altitude sickness. The clinic also issues international vaccination certificates and fit-to-fly documentation.

One of the biggest draws is the price. A current listed example shows the influenza vaccine at 260 baht, plus a 120 baht doctor’s fee and 60 baht injection charge, working out to 440 baht in total, a fraction of what’s typically charged at private hospitals. Staff are friendly, and the doctor takes proper time for consultation rather than rushing patients through.

Former District Tuberculosis Centre, Chang Khlan (opposite Sriwong Book Centre)
Open Mondays–Fridays, 8.30am–11.30am and 1pm–3pm. Closed weekends and public holidays.
Whether you’re headed somewhere requiring a yellow-fever certificate or simply need a routine jab before a trip, this little government clinic is well worth knowing about.
