No need to panic at the pump: Chiang Mai officials confirm fuel supplies are stable

Officials have moved to calm public nerves over fuel supplies, meeting with the manager of the PTT OR oil depot in the city to review stocks and pricing amid ongoing jitters about Middle East tensions.

Provincial Energy Chief Saitarn Prasongkwamdee and Provincial Commerce Chief Nattaporn Mahapaiboon led the visit to the Chiang Mai depot, where they were reassured that fuel reserves are sufficient and deliveries are running normally. Prices continue to be set by market mechanisms, though the government has extended its diesel price cap for a further 15 days to soften the blow on consumers.

If you’ve pulled into a petrol station only to find the pumps dry, officials say there’s a straightforward explanation: a spike in demand caught some stations off guard, leaving them waiting on tanker deliveries. Those tankers are still rolling — they’re just lined up at the depot, causing a ripple effect of delays to some forecourts.

Inspections of petrol stations across Mueang district confirmed that most are operating normally, with a handful simply waiting for top-up deliveries. Urgent resupply runs are being organised from the depot to cover the gaps.

Authorities say monitoring will continue to guard against any hoarding and to keep all fuel types flowing to the public.
Bottom line: no shortage, no crisis — just a temporary bottleneck in the supply chain.
