CityNews – 12th December 2019, at the meeting room of Chiang Mai municipality, Tassanai Buranupakorn, Mayor of Chiang Mai city, was the chairman for the meeting to explain the flooding prevention and releasing system to alleviate flood problem in northern basin areas in phase 1.
Following the big flood of 2011, the government assigned dept. of public works to study and plan the system for the release and drainage of water to decrease flood problem in the north. In phase 1, the officers have set the plan to prevent and drain flood water such as designing flood protection fences, drain tunnels and drain canals, stations for water gate control to be in accordance with land usage by local people. In order that the work can be done efficiently, the department held this meeting to coordinate between various departments and to assure the public that work is being done to prevent future city floods.
