Maxim Increases Safety: Leading Ride-Hailing Platform Launches First Aid Training for the Beginning of The Tourist Season
This is the first project of this scale in the city: the Bangkok hospital, the Department of Transport, and Maxim have collaborated to enhance passenger and driver safety.
Maxim Thailand, the company that began its operations in Chiang Mai in 2022, is taking a significant step to improve road safety in the northern capital. For the first time, the platform has partnered with Bangkok Chiang Mai Hospital and the Department of Transportation (DLT) to provide comprehensive training for its drivers.
On December 15, more than 50 partner drivers completed an intensive course on first aid and safe driving. The initiative aims not only to improve the quality of service, but also to turn Maxim cars into potential points of operational assistance on the city’s roads, especially during the busy tourist season.
DLT officers provided detailed guidance to partner drivers on current traffic regulations, service standards, and the key procedures for obtaining and renewing public transportation licenses, including vehicle registration through the electronic system (RY.17 and RY.18), specifically relevant to the Northern region.
Mr. Sayomphu Ano, Transport Academic, said, “This is a very good training activity because many drivers providing services through applications may not fully understand the process of obtaining a proper public service driving license, as well as the core principles of service. Understanding these aspects is crucial. Drivers who operate under the Department of Land Transport’s system help establish standards and ensure safety for both passengers and drivers themselves.”
A medical team of doctors, nurses, and emergency specialists from Bangkok Chiang Mai Hospital demonstrated in practice how to properly assess an emergency situation, provide basic first aid, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). These are critical skills that can save lives in the minutes before an ambulance arrives.
Dr. Wutthinan Manassunthornwut, Assistant Director of Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai, said, “This training aims to develop safe driving skills in accordance with the standards set by the Department of Land Transport, while also promoting basic life support and first aid skills—essential competencies that help reduce the severity of injuries in accidents and increase the chances of survival for those affected. Bangkok Chiang Mai Hospital believes that collaboration among all stakeholders—including transport service providers, regulatory agencies, and medical institutions—will help establish strong safety standards, reduce accident-related losses, and build lasting confidence among passengers.”
Mr.Pongpath Aksaraworakarn, Managing Director of Maxim Thailand, said, “Chiang Mai is our first home in Thailand, and we feel a special connection to this province. Our goal is to ensure that every passenger, especially during the holiday season, can be confident that a Maxim driver is not only skilled behind the wheel but also ready to care for and assist passengers in any situation. This is how we demonstrate our responsibility and promote safety for the community that has supported us all along.”
