Lanna Living Space opens in Lamphun with inaugural lantern festival

A 20-rai plot of former rice field in Si Bua Ban, Mueang Lamphun, is being turned into a new events venue, with organisers pitching it as a “co-working event” space for festivals, concerts, corporate functions, product launches, private celebrations and Lanna-style weddings.

The site belongs to Sorn and Sunantha Inkaew, who wanted to put their family land to use in a way that benefits Lamphun’s tourism economy and local communities rather than sit idle. The stated aim is to give the province’s traditions, communities and local knowledge more visibility with Thai and international visitors while generating income at the grassroots level.

Lanna Lantern Festival 2026

The venue’s first event will be the Lanna Lantern Festival 2026, timed to the Yi Peng and Loy Krathong period. It combines Lamphun’s lantern-hanging traditions with Loy Krathong celebrations and features from five of the province’s ethnic communities: Tai Yong, Tai Yuan, Tai Lue, Karen and Mon.
