The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Region 5 announced the arrest of three suspects from the same family in a major drug bust. Authorities seized 3.5 million methamphetamine pills and 60 kg of crystal meth hidden in agricultural trucks at a gas station in Chiang Rai on August 24.
The suspects are linked to Wa drug networks in Myanmar’s Shan State. Police also confiscated assets worth over 27 million baht, including land deeds, vehicles, cash, and gold.
This operation, part of the government’s “Cut the Fire at the Source” campaign, marks the fifth major crackdown since August 2024, which has dismantled several cross-border trafficking networks.
ONCB Secretary-General Pol Lt Gen Panurat Lakboon said he will travel to Singapore to meet counterparts from China, Myanmar, and Laos, seeking cooperation to extradite around 240 fugitive traffickers hiding in neighbouring countries.
