CityNews – A foreign man and his wife were ordered to remove decorative Buddha heads that surrounded their property after locals were outraged that the image was being used inappropriately, asking the local headman and police for help.
A house in Ban Phae Khwang, Hang Dong caused outcry among locals after the exterior wall was decorated with many images of the Buddha’s head. The village headman was contacted and together with the police and the army, paid an unannounced visit to the home in order to issue a demand to remove the Buddha heads from display.
When they arrived, only workmen could be found as the owners were not at home. However, an agreement was made over the phone that the owners have two weeks to remove all the Buddha head images from the exterior wall.
Contrary to popular belief, in Thailand, it is not against the law to use the image of a Buddha for decoration.
