CityNews – A wealthy, well-known Thai woman has been shot dead by her Swiss husband in their luxury condominium in Bangkok, where they lived with other members of their family. After killing her, the husband turned the gun on himself.

Krittiya Lamsam (48), a director and former co-president of Muang Thai Insurance, was shot dead in her six-storey home on Friday night. Her husband, Reto Castellazzi (55) shot himself in a bathroom shortly after killing Krittaya in a nearby bedroom.

It is believed that the couple began arguing after returning home from cycling together at around 6 p.m. Their maid heard gunshots from another room in the home, where she was ironing clothes. She alerted Krittaya’s relatives to the disturbance, who then called the police.

Once at the scene, police found the dead bodies and an 11mm gun in Reto’s hand. They also discovered a 9mm gun, a Magnum gun, and seven cartridges elsewhere in the house. According to Krittaya’s family, they had been against her keeping her guns in the house for fear of something like his happening. Krittaya was a keen shooter.

Reto had previously worked as a computer engineer, but had resigned due to mental illness. He was taking medication for his issues, and their relatives said they weren’t aware of the couple having any conflicts with one another.

The chief of security at the heavily-guarded condo said that he witnessed Reto standing on the balcony of his suite, firing bullets in all directions shortly before he murdered his wife. Police are calling the case a domestic dispute.

Krittaya was the cousin of Nualphan Lamsam, the current president and CEO of Muang Thai Insurance and the manager of Thailand’s national women’s football team. Krittaya and Reto have also left behind a 14-year-old daughter who was not present at the time of the shootings.
