A KA-32 helicopter from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation took to the skies this afternoon (2nd March) after 28 hotspots were detected in Doi Tao district earlier today.
The chopper — call sign DDPM 32-04 — lifted off from the 7th Infantry Division base in Mae Rim at 2pm and was dropping water over Muet Ka subdistrict by 3pm, drawing from Doi Tao Lake as its water source.
The operation is part of a wider aerial campaign covering 17 northern provinces, run jointly by DDPM, the 3rd Army Region, and the province, targeting the forest fires, haze, and PM2.5 that have been building across the North.
Flights will continue until the fires are brought under control.
