CityNews – Chiang Mai police are investigating after an elderly woman was cheated out of almost a million baht by a fraudster.

The 81-year-woman, whose name was given only as Mrs Pranee, placed an advert to sell some land in downtown Chiang Mai, Manager daily reported.
The suspect – who was described as well-dressed and driving an expensive car – contacted her and offered to sell her a plot of land near Royal Park Ratchaphruek, saying his wife’s relative was the owner.
The victim agreed to buy 2 rai and paid the man 800,000 baht as a deposit, witnessed by her bankers. After that she became suspicious and was able to provide Phuping police with the bank’s CCTV footage.
Police have identify the suspect and believe he is a gang member who has deceived others in the past. Officers have gathered evidence and urged the suspect to report to them by August 19. If he doesn’t show up, a warrant will be issued for his arrest.
The victim warned other wealthy people to beware of such cheats.
