A parking dispute between food truck vendors at the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation park turned ugly on the morning of the 25th of August, after a new vendor tried to set up on a spot already claimed by a steak seller trading there for over a month.
The newcomer claimed permission from an OrBorJor official to use the space, sparking a heated row that left the steak vendor in tears before security stepped in. She later filed a complaint with the Damrongtham Centre over feeling harassed.
OrBorJor officials inspected the site the same day and confirmed it’s public land, free to trade on with no formal lot system, and currently home to more than 20 vendors. They say both parties will be called in to talk things through. Longer-standing traders describe an informal first-come-first-served arrangement that’s kept the peace until now and are pushing OrBorJor to bring in proper zoning to stop it happening again.
