The project is a collaboration between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and National Telecom (NT), covering over 60,550 metres across the city centre at a total budget of more than 134 million baht, divided into eight lots.
Current progress stands at 16% of the target area, with 1,699 connection points completed and 663 signal distribution units installed. Network providers participating in the scheme include AWN and 3BB with 791 ports, NT with 504, True with 362, WeTV with 33 and Cable Connect with 9. The project area covers around 5,400 households, of which over 4,960 are internet users.
The work is broken into four phases: laying underground conduit, building the Single Last Mile network, migrating existing cables into the new system, and dismantling redundant overhead lines. The infrastructure operates on an open access model, allowing all providers to share the network and reducing duplicated investment.
The deputy minister said the project’s success would depend on progress across four dimensions: physical reorganisation, area management, regulatory oversight and creating economic incentives for operators — all aimed at ensuring the digital infrastructure upgrade is sustainable and serves the city’s long-term development goals.
