On 12th June 2025 at the Centara Riverside Hotel, Chiang Mai, researchers from Chiang Mai University (CMU) presented the outcomes of their strategic project, “Strategic Assessment of Industrial Cluster Development to Promote the Northern Economic Corridor (NEC) Based on the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model for Sustainable Development.”

The event showcased key findings and featured a public exhibition of strategic media under the project. It aimed to communicate research outcomes, gather feedback, and refine policy recommendations for the development of targeted industrial clusters within the four Northern Special Economic Corridoors. The project, supported by the Area-Based Development and Management Unit (A-BDMU), aligns with Thailand’s 20-Year National Strategy (2018–2037), which envisions the country as “secure, prosperous, and sustainable,” guided by the principles of a sufficiency economy to ensure the well-being of all Thai citizens. The project also supports adaptive social and environmental transformation through innovation and modern technology.

Associate Professor Dr. Apichat Sophadang, principal investigator of the project, highlighted three high-potential industrial clusters within the NEC region:

1. Agro-Food High-Value Products Cluster

2. Silver Wellness Products and Services Cluster (targeting the aging society)

3. Respectful and Inclusive Tourism Cluster

Following the keynote sessions, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed.

No great details were offered, to be perfectly honest, so Citylife will try to go get ourselves an interview soon and find out more.
