Chiang Mai’s Three Days of Comedy

 | Fri 15 Nov 2024 00:53 ICT
Chiang Mai gets to tickle the funny bone with our first ever 3 days of back to back comedy! Three days, three very different shows!

We’re kicking off our first ever three day comedy event with our popular game show/ comedy show hybrid Never Mind The Trademarks!

We had an absolute blast at Halloween but as it’s Thanksgiving we are adopting this theme like native folk adopting puritan travellers! Expect some friendship and thankfulness-based comedy!

3 comedians will pit their wits against each other and the audience in a series of games very similar to popular comedy panel shows! There will be stand up, there will be interactive games and there will be prizes! If you are a fan of comedy shows like Taskmaster, Mock the Week, Buzzcocks or 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown then COME ON DOWN and watch comedians battle it out with each other and members of the audience to win the much coveted Blue Elephant! There will be prizes, there will be many many laughs and there will also be drinks & food available at the Rooftop Bar at the Moat House!

22nd – 8pm The U.N. Irish Pub & Restaurant Asian Persuasion:

The Punch-Up Presents a special comedy show as part of our 3 day comedy event. A bill of comedians entirely from Asia: ‘Asian Persuasion!’

Get ready to laugh your socks off at this very special bill curated with some of the best Asian comics from all over! We have Turkish (Asian side!), Chinese, Indian and of course Thai comedians ready to tickle your funny bone with an array of material detailing the Asian experience! We also have a special guest dropping in!

Your host for the evening is the hilarious Deniz B. Turan Straight Outta Turkey! Deniz is a firecracker of a host and one of the best young comedians on the Bangkok comedy scene. He’ll be guiding you through the acts all evening and sprinkling you with some comedy gold of his own.

The Acts

MC: Deniz (Turkey)

Deniz B. Turan, is the founder and host of Istanbul Comedy Cult and a long-time traveller, partly by choice and partly due to being banned from his home country of Turkey. Less Ataturk and more Chatter-Turk, Deniz has entertained the masses since 2016 with his fast-paced deranged sense of humor in a multitude of dubious venues across four continents whether people have invited him or not. Deniz now brings his razor sharp comedy and malfunctioning yet nuclear stage presence to Bangkok! Strap in. Deniz is the trigger warning.

Pisara Prang (Thailand)

Ironically, comedians from the Land of Smiles are rare. Thai female comedians are rarer still. Thai female comedians who gravitate towards dark material are practically unheard of. Welcome then, to Pisara Prang and her take-no-prisoners acerbic comedy. Prang has a original take on what it means to be a woman in Thailand and both Thai and Farang culture enjoy her critical dissection and ire.

KC King (Thailand)

Half-Indian, half-Thai, wholly unique! Imagine what would happen if you mixed a Bombay street vendor, with a Thai criminal with the voice of a pre-pubescent choir boy. Five years in, and with three specials to his name, KC King delights the Bangkok crowd with his twisted take on the world. Think weird jokes and brutal roasts. His voice, style, and even his sexuality are frankly bizarre and anyone’s guess. You’ve never seen or heard a comedian like this. Don’t worry. It is possible to issue a restraining order.

Phillipe Koo

Philippe Koo is a standup comedian from Toronto, Canada. His comedy is versatile delving into the silly, dark and absurd. Koo began his stand-up career in Thailand, where he was a finalist in the Magner’s International Comedy Competition Bangkok after only his second time on stage! He is well-travelled having performed in Berlin, Brussels, Austin (Texas), Frankfurt, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and even on Zoom. He also performs in German and currently runs the Dangerous comedy shows and open mics in Pattaya.
