Provincial governor Suriya Prasartbandit and Night Safari director Sarawut Srisakun announced the birth of the white tiger cubs in a statement yesterday. Their mother, 10-year-old Ploy, gave birth to the two healthy female cubs on September 13.
Chiang Mai Night Safari now has 24 white tigers – 12 males and 12 females. Visitors will be invited to help name the two cubs.

Meanwhile, Chiang Mai Zoo announced on Monday that a baby koala has started crawling around after leaving its mother’s pouch, where it has spent the past six months since it was born.
Zoo staff do not know what sex the baby is, as the mother won’t let anyone get close to it. The baby, born to parents Namping and Brian, is the seventh koala at Chiang Mai Zoo and is also waiting to be named by visitors.
