Conde Nast Traveller’s readers have voted and Chiang Mai sits pretty high up the list of best cities for food in the world, at number 4. Tokyo was voted the best, followed by Madrid, Santa Fe and then us.

“Ambles through Chiang Mai’s streets are soundtracked by sizzling woks and scented by fiery chillies. Backpackers, locals and high-flying business travellers sit shoulder-to-shoulder in buzzy street markets, tucking in until satiated on balmy evenings. Favourites in this well-trodden corner of northern Thailand include khao soi, a fragrant curry noodle soup, and sai oua, sausage made with fatty pork and various herbs. From humble noodle stalls to riverside dining under lantern light or hotel breakfasts among the misty mountains beyond the thrum of the city, your love for this food scene is easy to explain,” writes Condé Nast Traveller.
