Chiang Mai volunteers build crowd-sourced fuel finder as shortage bites

With queues forming at pumps across the city, a group of Chiang Mai volunteer media developers has launched CM-PUMP, a web app that lets users report and check real-time fuel availability at stations near them — no download required.

The app runs directly in a mobile browser. Turn on GPS and a colour-coded map shows nearby stations: green for available, red for out, grey for no data yet. All major fuel types are covered, from diesel to the full range of gasohol grades.

Reports come from users at the pump and appear on the map instantly. Only submissions from the past 24 hours are displayed, and accuracy improves the more people contribute.

A recent update adds queue length and per-fill purchase limits at participating stations — useful at a time when many pumps are rationing supply. Current examples include Diesel B10 capped at 500 baht and B20 at 300 baht per transaction.

Additional features include fuel price comparisons across brands, a daily ranking of the cheapest stations nearby and a trip calculator that estimates how far your budget will take you.

The app is available nationwide, though it works best where reporting is active. Check availability or submit a report at cm-pump.com.
