Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), announced that Times Higher Education (THE), a leading global university ranking agency, had released the THE Impact Rankings 2025, which evaluate universities based on their efforts to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, 2,526 institutions from 130 countries and economic zones participated in the rankings, including 83 universities from Thailand, an increase from 77 in 2024.
Many Thai universities featured in the rankings across multiple categories with our very own Chiang Mai University ranking 40th in the world for Climate Action, a very worth achievement!
Five Thai universities ranked in the top 100 worldwide based on overall performance—Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University and Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Walailak University, a dark horse which entered the top 100 for the first time at number 93. Walailak also grabbed the world’s best university ranking for gender equality.
“Congratulations to all Thai universities for this global recognition. I commend the commitment of university leaders, faculty, staff, and students in advancing the SDGs. This reflects the critical role of Thai higher education in sustainable development across education, research, academic services, and socially and environmentally responsible governance. This aligns with the Ministry’s policy to promote Thai universities as key drivers of sustainable national development and global competitiveness,” said Prof. Dr. Supachai.
