Chiang Mai traffic police take to the skies with drone patrols

Chiang Mai Provincial Traffic Police are trialling drone surveillance to monitor illegal parking and ease chronic congestion, according to Traffic Division Commander Pol Col Manatchai Inthuen.
The drones give officers an aerial overview of traffic conditions, allowing faster and more accurate identification of vehicles parked in prohibited zones — particularly at known bottlenecks where obstructions tend to back up. Officers say the elevated vantage point makes enforcement quicker and easier than ground-level patrols.

The trial is currently limited to roads near the Traffic Division’s own office, with a view to assessing effectiveness before rolling out to other areas of the city.
