A convoy of rescue workers, fire engines and mobile toilets left Chiang Mai this morning for Bangkok, where flooding has now dragged on for several days.
Deputy Governor Chatchawan Panya and Somchat Wattanakla, deputy chairman of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO), sent the vehicles off at the PAO’s park on the morning of 29 September. The rescue team and the toilets will be stationed at Suan Luang and will stay until the floods recede.
Chatchawan said the province and the PAO were worried about Bangkok residents caught up in the flooding.
The Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry had asked each province what help it could offer. Chiang Mai thought about it and settled on toilets. Communities hit by floods badly need them, he said, and Chiang Mai knows this from its own experience. Solve that problem, and people are relieved of a good deal of misery. So the province is sending mobile toilets along with the rescue crews.
