The training focused on swift-water rescue — one of the highest-risk operations for both victims and responders — with the aim of improving response speed, effectiveness and safety during flood emergencies and water-related accidents, which typically rise during the wet months.
A UTLT volunteer described the exercise as the first annual refresher training for 2569, held under the theme “From first responder to a prepared response team.” Participants came from a range of backgrounds and experience levels, but shared a common goal: getting people out safely. The guiding principle repeated throughout the training was: “Self safe, team safe, everyone safe, victim safe.”
Several areas of Chiang Mai are already classified as flood-risk zones, and organisers said the exercise is an important step in raising the standard of volunteer rescue work before conditions deteriorate further.
